What is micronized bentonite powder?
The stone and mining industry is one of the main and mother industries of the country, on which many industries depend. The products of the stone industry are used as the main material in factories and production workshops. Bentonite is one of the most widely used products in the industry, which is produced in various ways in stone crushing plants. This mineral is used in various ways in various industries due to its high water absorption and adhesive properties.
Application of micronized bentonite powder
After absorbing water, bentonite turns into a paste and acquires adhesive properties. This feature of bentonite is used in various cases such as producing drilling mud, glazing, filtering and purification, animal feed, producing concrete in civil engineering, pelletizing in the steel industry, etc. For example, in civil engineering, adding bentonite increases the water absorption and paste properties of concrete. As concrete becomes more fluid without reducing its strength, its ductility increases. Bentonite is used in industry in sodium, calcium, organophilic and acid-activated varieties.
What happens in a micronized bentonite production line?
Bentonite is a mineral and in order to be used in industry, it must be converted into bentonite powder in crushing plants. The smaller the particle size of bentonite powder, the finer the particles are and the greater the contact surface with the environment. As the contact surface increases, the greater the possibility of absorbing water and moisture. In some industries, such as steel and civil engineering, it is necessary to make bentonite particles small enough so that in addition to absorbing a lot of moisture, they do not change the structure and performance of the product. For this purpose, bentonite particles are crushed and micronized in micron sizes. Micronized bentonite is usually produced in particle sizes less than 20 microns, although depending on its application, it may be slightly larger and up to 45 microns.
After the bentonite-containing rock is extracted from the mine and transported to the crushing plant, screening and separation of the pieces are carried out. The lumps with dimensions of approximately 10 to 300 mm enter the grinding machine. The Raymond mill or pendulum roller mill is one of the best machines for producing micronized bentonite. After the lumps enter the Raymond mill, crushing and grinding begin and the pieces become smaller step by step. If larger particles are needed, they are removed from the cycle in the early stages of the grinding process and the particles that are to be micronized continue to grind. When the micronized bentonite particles have become the desired size, they are removed from the mill and granulated through a strong air suction system. In the granulation and meshing stage, the particles are screened with an accuracy of 98% to achieve uniform and uniform granulation. This process is carried out continuously in this machine and it is possible to produce 40 tons of micronized bentonite powder per hour.
The quality of micronized bentonite powder depends on two factors: the quality of the original stone and the quality of the granulation and uniformity of the product. Even high-quality bentonite stone, if not ground correctly or if it does not have a uniform granulation, will ultimately not have the necessary efficiency.
